Every month we participate in First Thursdays, an event that has swept through the Mother city and brought creatives out onto the streets in droves! April’s First Thursdays at Cameraland was a night that included a little something for everyone. Attendees joined in and took a step back to mindful photography, when photographs we kept in albums and on walls instead of in masses, lost and forgotten on memory cards and hard drives.
We were joined by Fujifilm Instax SA and Lomography SA as we transformed our studio and café into an instant print workshop for the night. Guests were invited to try out all the brand’s latest instant print cameras as well as the Fujifilm Instax Share instant printer which let them print photos straight from their smartphones. A lucky draw saw two of our guests go home with a Fujifilm Instax printer and a Lomography instant camera respectively while everyone in attendance left with a voucher for 10% off all Instax products!
We used First Thursdays as the ideal platform for a sneak premiere of our current Martin Osner Exhibition. Those who wandered into our store were presented with the opportunity to contemplate the disposable nature of things in our modern throwaway society as they savoured his beautifully captured limited-edition “Abandoned” prints among other, equally-striking and evocative pieces. The exhibition will be officially launched on 21 April 2016.
With unusually balmy weather for the season setting the tone, many wound their way up the vintage red staircase and ended their night on our rooftop to the soulful sounds of local musicians, Well Done Sun. For those who missed out or would like to tag themselves or a friends, the full album for the night can be viewed over on our Facebook page.
